Women In Engineering
To bridge the gender gap, for the first time during a Microwave Week, a Women In Engineering event was organised. The debate topic was: “Engineering Career for Women: Still a Challenge”?
Barbara van Balen, social scientist, and Prof. Dr. Jenny Dankelmann, professor in biomechanical engineering, TU Delft, presented their experience and feelings as a female working in a male environment.
A quote from the presentations: “still after so many years as a professor I still receive letters addressed to me starting with Dear Sir…” indicates the importance to pay attention to such topics.
The debate was followed by discussions in the Amsterdam café in the RAI while enjoying some drinks and snacks.
The picture shows the participants to the Women in Engineering evening session. More females than males participated in this event – we hope that this is a positive indication!
