  Frank van den Bogaart

Frank van den Bogaart is a principal professional with more than 25 years of experience in a high technology and a high innovation R&D environment. He received his M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from Eindhoven University of Technlogy, the Netherlands. He started his career in 1982 at the Physics Laboratory of TNO in The Hague in the field of passive and active phased-array antennas. From 1987 to 1989 he was with the PHILIPS research labs Laboratoires d'Electronique et de Physique appliquées in Limeil Brévannes near Paris in France were he started to develop and design MMICs for X-band phased-array radars. On his return to the Netherlands he founded the fabless MMIC Design Centre at TNO. From 1997 to 2005 he was the department head at TNO of a group fully dedicated to radar technology. In 2005, Frank was appointed as director research of the Division Observation Systems of TNO. Since 2014 he is a Principal Advisor within TNO.

In 2011 he co-founded D-RACE, the Dutch Radar Centre of Expertise which is a strategic alliance between Thales Netherlands and TNO and he serves since then in the Steering Group. Since 2002 he is in the program management group of the Platform Nederland Radar and as such co-initiates and co-authors the long-term radar technolgy roadmaps in the Netherlands. He is in the management teams of the national Roadmap Security and Roadmap Electronics of the Dutch Topsector High Tech Systems and Materials.

Frank van den Bogaart is since 2013 member of the Board of the European Microwave Association. He was the General Chair of the European Microwave Week (EuMW) in 2008 in Amsterdam. He founded in 2010 the annual Defence and Security Forum within the EuMW. He chaired the Gallium Arsenide and other Compound Semiconductors Symposium (GAAS) in 2004 in Amsterdam. He serves in the scientific conference programme committees  of several microwave and radar conferences.

Since 2005 he is chairing the RF Technologies Focus Group of the NATO Sensors and Electronics Technologies (SET) Panel of the NATO Science & Technology Organisation (STO). From 2019 onwards he is the vice-chair of this NATO SET Panel.

Frank van den Bogaart became President of the European Microwave Association on 1 January 2019, in succession to the retiring President, Prof. Wolfgang Heinrich. Frank van den Bogaart serves as the Chairman of the EuMA General Assembly and the Board of Directors.
