EuMW 2010

EuMW continues its series of successful events with the 13th European Microwave Week 2010 which will be held at the CNIT la Défense, Paris, France from 26 September to 1 October 2010. The French exhibition and conference centre is easy to access with good transportation from Paris airports and RER-Métro stations. This event gathers all the international microwave community around four thematic conferences:
EuMC – European Microwave Conference
EuMIC – European Microwave Integrated Circuits Conference
EuWIT – European Wireless Technology Conference
EuRAD – European Radar Conference

In addition to the conferences, the attendees will have the opportunity to attend workshops and short courses, as well as the European Microwave Exhibition which constitutes the largest trade show on RF and microwaves in Europe. The event focuses on the needs of engineers and researchers and provides an invaluable opportunity for both academia and commerce to consider the latest trends and developments that are widening the field of application of microwaves. Visit the EuMW2010 website for more information.

EuMW 2009 Retrospective

The 12th European Microwave Week – EuMW 2009 – was held at the Nuova Fiera di Roma, Rome, Italy from 28 September to 2 October 2009.

This year there was a high number of submitted papers, totalling 1251 across four conferences. In all 805 papers were accepted, an acceptance rate of 64%, which comprised 541 oral and 264 posters papers. There were 108 oral conference sessions, including 3 special sessions and 7 focused sessions. There was also a record number of conference and workshop delegates, which this year totalled 1493. As usual, EuMW included a major exhibition.

The 2009 EuMA Distinguished Service Award was presented to Prof. Peter Russer. The 2009 EuMA Outstanding Career Award was presented to Prof. Tatsuo Itoh .

EuMA Best Paper Prizes were presented to the authors of the most exceptional papers at the EuMC, EuMIC, EuWiT, and EuRAD conferences.

EuMA Topical Groups

In September 2009 EuMA approved a proposal to establish EuMA Topical Groups on technical issues of interest to EuMA where a community exists that wishes to come within the EuMA umbrella. It was also agreed to establish a EuMA Topical Group on RF MEMS, based on the AMICOM community, to be launched formally in early 2010.

Change of President

Professor Roberto Sorrentino will retire as President of the European Microwave Association at the end of the year. The General Assembly recorded a heart-felt vote of thanks to the President at the end of his final meeting. Professor Sorrentino took up the presidency in 1997 and has steered EuMA to success throughout the past decade. He will be succeeded on 1 January 2010 by Professor Wolfgang Heinrich.

European Microwave Lecturers

EuMA recently announced an agreement with IEEE MTT-S, expanding the Speakers Bureau with a new category: European Microwave Lecturers (EML). The programme was launched with an initial panel of 3 distinguished lecturers. It is anticipated that this co-operation will encourage community networking and promote microwave engineering to EuMA and MTT members.
